There has been only 1 NASA mission to Uranus – Voyager 2 launched many years ago in 1977. Further details about the Uranus missions can be found on NASA’s Uranus web pages. Uranus is planet number 7 in our Solar System’s line up. And the 3rd largest planet (by radius – about 4x that of the Earth) and is at a minimum distance of 1.2 billion km (746 million miles). More details about Uranus can be found on NASA’s Uranus Fact Sheet. A quick look at all of the planets can be found here .

Voyager 2 – 1977 Voyager 2 launched 8/20/1977 and was the first of a pair of spacecraft launched to explore Jupiter and Saturn then on to the outer planets like Uranus and Neptune (detailed description) but was plagued with problems – later overcome. Its launch date was unique in that Voyager 2’s path would take it past Uranus and Neptune as well as Jupiter and Saturn. Like Voyager 1, it contained a golden record of sounds from earth. Voyager continues to speed out of our solar system. Images from Voyager 1 and 2 can be found here.
